The value of repetition

One of the advantages of signing up for online courses is that lessons can be re-watched, but I usually do not make use of this feature. (I confess that I find it quite boring to watch other people paint unless I am invited to follow along.)
At Evolve, it has always been recommended to re-watch lessons, especially after a break. After my long break, I have finally followed the advice and discovered nuances I had missed the first time around.
It has also been interesting to work with the same subject several times. Our weekly fruit box currently contains different varieties of pears. I reckon that I will be able to paint a more interesting generic pear if I continue sketching and painting what I see - Cezanne and Van Gough are two artists that immediately spring to mind when I am thinking of painters who have explored an everyday object from all angles...
